Owen Signs values being involved in the local community and supporting local organisations. Newy Parkrun is a fun, free event organised by volunteers every Saturday morning in Carrington, where participants take part in a 5km run through the parkland around Throsby Creek. Parkrun is an international community with hundreds of parkruns taking place every Saturday around the world.
Newy Parkrun approached Owen Signs to design and manufacture the wayfinding signage throughout the course. The role of directional signage is to give information or direction. The directional signage for Newy Parkrun is used to indicate distance and direction along the running track. We were challenged with making something that will be permanent but wouldn’t detract from the natural environment along the trackside.
Our design considered appearance within the surrounding environment, permanency and branding to create distinctive directional signage. We also had to be budget conscious within our design, as Newy Parkrun is a community event run only by volunteers. With this in mind we created a series of directional signposts that had a creative, fun, and unique appearance, that kept within Parkrun’s branding and budget restraints.
